Privacy Policy

StackUpp is operated by StackUpp LLC, an Arizona limited liability company ("StackUpp", "we", "us"). StackUpp is a social savings challenge. You enter your own income, expenses and savings, and you choose what, if anything, your groups can see. This policy explains what we collect and why.
What you give us
- Account details: your name, email address, date of birth, and (optionally) phone number and profile photo. If you use Sign in with Apple or Google we receive an identifier and, if you allow it, your email.
- Financial entries you type in: income sources, expenses, savings accounts (name, type, an optional balance you enter) and the contributions you log. StackUpp does not connect to your bank and never asks for bank credentials, card numbers or account numbers.
- Group activity: groups you create or join, invitations you send, and your sharing choices.
- Invitations: when you invite someone by phone, we store only the last four digits (shown only to you) and a keyed one-way hash used to avoid duplicate invites. We never text anyone on your behalf — your phone sends the message.
What your groups can see
Your profile: your name, @username and photo are visible to other StackUpp members so friends can find you (turn off "Let people find me" to hide from search). You choose who sees your bio, competition record, awards and friends list: everyone, friends only, or only you. Profiles never show dollar amounts. You can block and report any member.
Group members see your name, photo, rank and Stack Rate (a percentage). Everything else is private unless you turn it on, per group: your stacked dollar amount, your streak, expense categories or individual expenses, and notes you mark as shared. Your income, Take-Home Pool, account balances and private notes are never sent to other members.
Your date of birth
We ask for your date of birth when you create an account, so we can follow the law on children's privacy and give members under 18 the protections below. We use it only to work out your age group; it's never shown to other members. For adults, it also sets the age group used for anonymous peer comparisons.
StackUpp Teens (ages 13–17)
People aged 13 to 17 can use StackUpp only as part of StackUpp Teens, and only when a parent or legal guardian with a StackUpp Gold account adds them. The parent enters the teen's first name and date of birth and agrees to these terms on the teen's behalf; we keep a record of that consent.
- What a teen account collects: the same kinds of information as above, except that teens don't enter income, expenses, debts, assets or a location.
- Private by default, and some things always private: a teen can't be found by search, a teen's dollar amounts are never shown to other members (friends see points and rank only), and teens can only be friends with other teens and their own parent. Every friendship needs approval from each teen's parent.
- What the parent can see and do: the parent sees their teen's accounts, balances, goals, challenges and friends; approves or removes friends; can log gifts into the teen's accounts; and can delete the teen's account and data at any time. Gifts are records only: StackUpp never moves money.
- Quieter notifications: teens don't receive push notifications between 10pm and 7am in their time zone.
- No promotions: we never show promotions or advertising to anyone under 18, and never use a teen's information for marketing.
- Turning 18: on their 18th birthday a teen's account becomes a regular account that belongs to them. Their parent's access ends and both are told.
How we use it
- To calculate your Take-Home Pool, Stack Rate, rankings, streaks and insights.
- To send notifications you've enabled and occasional service emails (like password resets).
- To keep the service secure, including rate limiting and an audit log of sensitive changes.
- Community benchmarks use aggregated medians and are only shown when at least 20 people contribute.
Analytics
We record a small set of first-party product events (for example "expense added" or "leaderboard viewed") to understand which features help. These events never include dollar amounts. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
What we never do
- We do not sell or rent your personal information.
- We do not show ads.
- We do not share your data with data brokers.
StackUpp Gold purchases
StackUpp Gold is an optional subscription bought through Apple. Apple handles payment; we never see your card or Apple Account details. Apple sends us the purchase record (product, dates, renewal status, and a transaction ID) so we can turn Gold on for your account.
Service providers
StackUpp runs on Cloudflare (hosting, database and file storage). Push notifications are delivered through Apple Push Notification service, and sign-in may use Apple or Google. These providers process data only to provide their service to us.
Your choices and rights
- Export: download a copy of everything you've entered from Settings.
- Delete: delete your account from Settings. We delete your data, revoke Sign in with Apple, and hand groups you own to another member (or cancel them). Other members' own records are not affected.
- Sharing: change what each group can see at any time.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Passwords are stored as salted hashes, session tokens are stored only as hashes, and every request is checked so you can only access your own records.
Children under 13
StackUpp is not for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. Sign-up asks for a date of birth first, and we don't create an account for anyone under 13. If we learn that an account belongs to a child under 13, we suspend it and delete its data promptly, keeping only a one-way hash of the email address to stop the same email from signing straight back up. A parent who believes their child under 13 has given us information can email support@stackupp.app and we'll delete it.
How long we keep data
We keep your information while your account is open. When you (or, for a teen, their parent) delete an account, we delete its data right away, except for the security audit record of the deletion itself, which contains no personal details. A parent's consent record for a teen is kept for as long as the teen's account exists.
